200 educators met to launch the ‘Children are not for profit’ campaign. This follows a mass meeting of over two thousand educators on the 26th of March after the Four Corners report into early childhood education & care. They are fighting for better ratios, an end to profiteering in the sector, and an effective industry regulator led by professionals with experience in the sector.
From this a parliamentary petition has been launched to demand that they:
Resource local government to ensure there are sufficient council-run centres to meet demand in every LGA.
Allocate 100% of Smart & Skilled Funding to TAFE NSW for early childhood education & care training.
Introduce rent controls upon landlords of early learning centres.
Review and resource the regulator so that it is fit for purpose.
The petition needs to get 20,000 signatures in the next three months to trigger a parliamentary debate on our demands.
To do this, YOUR help is needed.
By standing up for ourselves, educators have won ratios and pay increases. We can win on this if we all work together.
